What is TOEFL?


Hallo guys.. In order to fulfill my soft skill's task – English Bussiness's task. This time, I will post an article and give you some explanations about TOEFL.

What is TOEFL? TOEFL is abreviation from Test of English as a Foreign Language. It's a test of English Language proficiency which very needed by speaker whom their native language is not English. TOEFL organized by ETS (Educational Testing Service) in United States of America (USA) for all the test takers from around the world.

The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world. In generally, this test required for college entrance requirements at most universities in the United States of America and Canada. TOEFL recognized by more than 8.500 colleges, universities, intituions, government agencies, scolarship programs and bussiness in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States.

For you information, TOEFL is more oriented to the American English. The TOEFL iBT format has progressively replaced both the computer-based tests (CBT) and paper-based tests (PBT). Although paper-based testing is still used in select areas. The minimum score of TOEFL is about 310, and the maximum score of TOEFL is about 677 for the PBT version (Paper-Based Tests). The best chance for you success with the TOEFL is prepare and practice.

This test consists of four sections, the sections are :

  1. Listening, it takes 30-40 minutes. The Listening section consists of 3 parts. The first one contains 30 questions about short conversations. The second part has 8 questions about longer conversations. The last part asks 12 questions about lectures or talks.
  2. Structure and Written Expression, it takes 25 minutes. The Structure and Written Expression section has 15 exercises of completing sentences correctly and 25 exercises of identifying errors.
  3. Reading Comprehension, it's take 55 minutes. The Reading Comprehension section has 50 questions about reading passages.
  4. Writing, it takes 30 minutes. The Writing section is one essay with 250-300 words in average.
